I’m trying to get back into the habit of writing. Not writing turns into a habit too and I need a good place to dump my thoughts so that I can organize them later. LOL right who has time for that?

Anyway, I had the Funded Female Founders event to go to but my endometriosis was kicking up hard and I thought, “Well this is a very female thing to do today” and stayed home. There was a $300 goodie bag of skincare items and I was like D: but I caught a great white shark with my kid in Animal Crossing since I was home so it evened out.

In other news, this is the second week we tried my new experiment stand up meeting format. You know how usually it’s: what’d you do last week? What are you doing this week? Any blockers? Repeat forever.

This time I was like, “This seems like an inefficient use of time” and threw in a mandatory “experiment section” so after we do the roundtable we do a tiny experiment. After that I make everyone give their cognitive weight score. Last week was the first week and our experiment was to try out this new meeting format LOL. This week we reviewed our thoughts on it and next week we’ll add recording it and think about some metrics. These last two meetings were live so it didn’t occur to me to record it, when otherwise it would have been obvious.

My kid is off for the summer too so this week his cognitive weight score is 5 out of 10 and the experiment he came up with was to sprout different beans on a paper towel. I thought that was so cute and funny because here I was thinking of some kind of optimization experiment and this guy wants to find out if we can grow plants from different dried beans. Honestly I was kind of impressed. I don’t know what I would have chosen at that age but probably not that.

When I was a team lead in Amsterdam I had a different kind of meeting format too. After the roundtable I’d have some kind of efficiency tip and then at the end I’d give someone a shoutout and have my team do it for each other too. The first time I did it I saw one of my analysts help a new immigrant with the ATM and I called it out in our meeting. I remember saying something to the team like “Being a good person in the world is just as important for me as the work we do.” I’m really proud of him for a lot of reasons, and that was one of them.

Anyway.

I asked one of my design partners today if he was having fun and he said yes lolol.
